CHAMPIONSHIP
The football Championship of Bulgaria has taken place in different periods with two systems.

Initially from 1921/22 till 1936/37 the matches were played with a score system in the groups of the sixth sports federations: Sofia, North Bulgaria, Black sea, Trace, Bdin and South-West. After that the winners in the regional groups define the Champion of the country by the system of elimination.

The first national championship was played in 1924, but never ended.

From 1938 till 1940 the championship was carried out into one common national football league with the score system in use. The league consisted of 10 football clubs.

From 1941 till 1948 the championship was again taken back to the initial mixed system but the number of the participants from the Sofia regional league was increased to 3, as well as the Trace and North Bulgaria – each up to 2 clubs.

From 1949 till now the championship has been defined into one national “A” football group.

LEVSKI – Sofia is the only Bulgarian football club that in all these 73 championships has played either in the First Sofia football league and in the national “A” football group. Five of these championships have not ended.
